One Loyalty Card, Again and Again: Introducing Multi-Use Cards in Loytu

A loyalty card should not become useless at the exact moment it has done its job.

That is why, in Loytu 1.0.7, we have introduced multi-use digital loyalty cards: an optional new way to let customers redeem a reward and then carry on collecting on the same card.

Until now, reaching the end of a loyalty card created a natural stopping point. Once the final reward had been redeemed, that card was finished. A business could issue another one, but the customer needed to collect a new card and add it again.

With multi-use cards enabled, that extra step disappears. The reward is redeemed, the card resets to zero stamps, and the next loyalty cycle begins immediately.

Loyalty Should Not Have a Dead End

For many businesses, loyalty is not really a one-off promotion. It is an ongoing relationship with customers who come back week after week, month after month or appointment after appointment.

A café regular does not stop being a regular because they earned their free coffee. A salon client does not stop visiting because they reached their reward. A barber, gym, restaurant or car wash does not suddenly need to start the customer relationship from scratch.

The loyalty experience should work the same way. Complete the card, enjoy the reward, then keep going.

One Card, Multiple Reward Cycles

When multi-use is enabled on a programme, the customer journey becomes very simple:

  1. The customer collects stamps as normal.
  2. They reach the final reward and redeem it.
  3. Their existing loyalty card resets to zero stamps.
  4. They immediately begin collecting towards the next reward on that same card.

There is no second sign-up, no new QR code for the customer to scan and no growing collection of old loyalty cards.

The Same Apple Wallet or Google Wallet Pass Stays With Them

The biggest change is almost invisible to the customer — which is exactly the point.

If they keep their Loytu card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, they keep using that same pass. After the final reward is redeemed, the pass updates to show the new collection cycle and starts again from zero stamps.

The customer does not need to remove the old pass, collect another card or remember to add anything new. The loyalty card they already know simply remains useful.

Milestone Rewards Start Again Too

Multi-use cards also work with milestone rewards.

Imagine a programme with a smaller reward at three stamps and a final reward at ten. During the first cycle, the customer can earn and redeem the three-stamp milestone before continuing towards the final reward.

Once the final reward is redeemed and the card restarts, the milestone becomes available again as part of the new cycle. A reward earned last time does not prevent the customer from earning it again.

That means the whole programme can repeat naturally, not just the final stamp.

Resetting the Card Does Not Reset Your History

For the customer, the card looks like it has started again. Under the hood, Loytu keeps the history of what happened before.

Each completed reward remains recorded as a historic redemption, so restarting the card does not wipe previous activity or distort your reporting.

You can still see total rewards redeemed, redemptions within a selected period and redemption activity over time. A multi-use card simply creates another collection cycle while the previous cycles remain part of the programme's history.

This matters because a card becoming reusable should not make your analytics less useful. In fact, repeated cycles can give you a clearer picture of the customers who continue engaging with your loyalty programme over time.

Single-Use Cards Are Not Going Anywhere

Not every loyalty programme needs to repeat. A seasonal campaign, launch promotion or limited-time challenge may be designed to finish permanently when the reward is redeemed.

That is why multi-use cards are optional. Existing programmes remain single-use by default and continue to behave exactly as they did before. Existing customer cards and wallet passes also continue working without needing to be replaced.

You decide which model makes sense for each programme.

Built for Businesses Where Customers Keep Coming Back

Multi-use cards are particularly useful for businesses where repeat visits are already part of the normal customer relationship: cafés, barbers, beauty salons, restaurants, fitness businesses, car washes, retail stores and plenty more.

In those businesses, the best outcome is not simply that somebody completes a loyalty card once. It is that earning the reward becomes one moment in a much longer pattern of returning.

Making the same card reusable helps the technology get out of the way of that relationship.

How to Enable Multi-Use Cards

You can enable multi-use behaviour when creating a new loyalty programme or switch it on later for an existing one.

Open the programme in Loytu, choose Edit Program and enable “Restart card after reward”. From then on, when the final reward is redeemed, that customer's card will reset and begin its next collection cycle automatically.

Redeem. Reset. Keep Going.

The idea behind multi-use cards is simple: loyalty should feel continuous.

Customers return, collect stamps, earn a reward and redeem it. Instead of reaching a dead end, the same card is ready for the next visit and the next reward — while Loytu keeps the history of everything that came before.

One card. One wallet pass. As many loyalty cycles as the customer keeps coming back for.
